Welcome to my blog! I am Ariana Lema-Driscoll, a graduate student in Applied Economics at UMass-Boston. My focus is in ecological resource economics and more specifically optimal biomass use in an energy portfolio. I am currently working on a project with Dr. David Timmons on the viability of biochar in Massachusetts. This blog will focus on the triage of economics, environmental issues, and public policy. I will pull from my own research, existing research, and current events to write about a variety of related topics.
Given the importance of money in society, economics must be considered when formulating policies. However, this is not to say that money is more important than the environment. Ecological economics fuses the importance of environmental protection with economic considerations in formulating solutions. I hope that you find the topics diverse and engaging.
The views I express here are my own and not those of my employer nor university.
